Resolution No. 3-98 A RESOLUTION ACCEPTING A FISHING IS FUN GRANT FROM THE COLORADO DIVISION OF WILDLIFE FOR PIKEVIEW RESERVOIR WHEREAS, the City of Colorado Springs, The Palmer Foundation and Colorado Springs Utilities have applied to the Colorado Division of Wildlife for a Fishing is Fun Grant, and WHEREAS, the Colorado Division of Wildlife has approved this application in an amount of one hundred twentyeight thousand nine hundred and fifty dollars, and WHEREAS, the City Council finds that it is in the best interest of the City of Colorado Springs to accept this grant. NOW, THEREFORE, BEIT COLORADO SPRINGS. ESOL 'ED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF Section 1. This grant of one hundred twentyeight thousand nine hundred and fifty dollars from the Colorado Division of Wildlife is hereby accepted. Section 2. Miller, City Development Group Support Manager RE: Acceptance of a Fishing is Fun Grant from the Colorado Division of Wildlife for Pikeview Reservoir Recommendation: Approval of a resolution accepting a Fishing is Fun Grant and the approval of the contract with the Colorado Division of Wildlife for Pikeview Reservoir in the amount of $128,950.00 Background: The City Development Group, in conjunction with The Parks and Recreation Department, Colorado Springs Utilities Water Resources Department and the Palmer Foundation applied to the Colorado Division of Wildlife for a Fishing is Fun Grant to develop improvements at Pikeview Reservoir in order to open the facility for access by fishermen and the general public. Pikeview reservoir is located south of Garden of the Gods Road along the Pikes Peak Greenway. This application was approved in the amount of one hundred twenty-eight thousand nine hundred and fifty dollars by the Colorado Division of Wildlife on June 10, 1997. The source for the matching hnds is the TOPS hnding which was approved by City Council on November 25, 1997. Improvements to the reservoir will include: restroom facilities, a parking lot, a fish cleaning station, fencing, a gravel trail around the lake, fishing piers and a paved trail to provide access for the disabled. The facilities will be connected to the Monument Creek Multi-use Trail that currently extends along the entire Pikes Peak Greenway. The total project budget of $257,900.00 will provide matching hnds toward the 1996 GOCO Legacy grant ($2,000,000) and the El Pomar grant ($1,510.000) for the development of the Pikes Peak Greenway. fshcnl97 ITEM NO. 3-B-3
